Ni'Ho'Pu
BOARD GAME
Narrative & Game Design
In Ni'Ho'Pu, you play a tribe of Kiorés, mouses of the Patchouka Island. Each year, the god Mawu lets a Sacred Tooth fall on the island. The objective of each tribe is to find this Sacred Tooth. Once discovered, it must be brought to the center of the island before being cursed...
Ni'Ho'Pu is intended to be a family board game, providing interactions between players and random events to spice up the game. All of this in a funny universe!

Create a complete game system
From the concept to the cards and their effects, we created the whole game system. As we were pretty free about the universe and the objective of the game, we tried to articulate our ideas around the desires we had in common: family and funny game, with a touch of random which lead to interactions between all the players.
Do playtests and balancing
When we found our concept, we had to be sure that we went in the right direction. We then made a lot of playtests that leaded to retakes and, sometimes, to complete reworks. The main modifications concerned the board, the cards and the random aspect of the game on which we had to have more control.
Design the board
My main task was to design the board. We wanted to let the players free to go where they want while keeping control of their movement. It was essential to avoid them to only go on the cases which please them and to force them to brave challenges. The board then knew a lot of changes in order to balance these two aspects without creating frustration.
